Cortex Chat command suggestions: typing /m lists /me with its action parameter and a short description, above key hints for Enter, Tab, arrows and Escape.

Find the right command.

Type /m and matching commands appear with a description of each. Tab completes the suggestion and the next parameter is shown as you fill it in. Commands work with or without the slash.

Players standing on a Vinewood sidewalk in game, with a /me action floating above one character.

The words around the scene.

/me puts the action above the character in the world, visible to players nearby and in the same routing bucket. /gme reaches everyone, /ooc can be global or local, and /rolldice rolls on the server.

A compact Cortex Chat over a neon Vinewood street at night, showing two player messages and a /me line in a player-chosen style.

Their chat. Their style.

Each player picks position, size, font, background opacity and accent colour in Cortex Settings. Fade time and history length are theirs too, and the choices are saved between sessions.

For the people running the server.

Flood controls
A per-player cooldown and a flood lock run on the server. By default, a fourth message within 10 seconds locks that player's chat for a minute.
Word filter
An optional server-side slur filter, on by default, that you can extend with your own words and phrases.
Checked /dv
Vehicle deletion is permission-checked on the server through ACE, vMenu ACEs, Cortex Admin, QBCore, Qbox, ESX or your own export, with range, bucket and occupant checks.
Message types
Announcement, info, success, warning and error notices each have their own style. Colour codes ^0 to ^9 work in text.
Works with existing resources
chat:addMessage, chatMessage, the suggestion events and chat:clear keep working, and client and server exports are available.

Server questions

What does it need?

Cortex Lib 2.2.1 or later and OneSync. No roleplay framework or database is required.

Does it replace my current chat?

Yes. Disable the stock chat resource and any other chat replacement before starting cortex-chat. Resources that send chat:addMessage keep working; stock HTML templates, chat modes and exports['chat'] do not.

Who can use /dv?

Only players your server grants it to. The default auto mode accepts cortex.chat.dv and grants from vMenu ACEs, Cortex Admin, QBCore, Qbox or ESX. Pin a single mode to restrict it further.

Can players change how it looks?

Yes. Position, size, font, background opacity, accent colour, fade time and history length are per-player settings in /cortexsettings.
