Information we receive
The website does not offer accounts or checkout. The correspond form sends your name, email address, and message to Means through a form-delivery provider so we can reply. The hosting infrastructure may also process standard technical records such as an IP address, browser type, requested page, timestamp, and error information to deliver and protect the site.
Desktop purchases and licenses
CompressThing and Means Audio keep media, sound profiles, and application Activity history on your PC. Their paid builds use separate license services for activation, checks, and purchase recovery. These requests include a random installation ID, PC label, license key or signed license, and purchase email when recovery is requested. No product account is required.
Stripe processes payments; Means does not receive full card details. Cloudflare hosts license and activation records, hashed email lookups, encrypted keys, and technical logs. Resend receives the recipient address and transactional message. The encrypted email queue removes message payloads after provider acceptance, cancellation, or final failure. License records are retained to support purchases and prevent duplicate fulfillment. Provider and payment logs follow their applicable retention requirements.
Audio licensing does not upload listening state, EQ, device names, Bluetooth identifiers, executable paths, or Activity history. CompressThing does not upload media or filenames for licensing. Diagnostic reports are shared only when you choose to send them. Use the contact page for purchase support or a privacy request; purchase-email verification may be required. Available purchase links open checkout hosted by Stripe.
Cookies and analytics
The Means website does not intentionally set advertising cookies or run behavioural analytics. Following a link to GitHub or another external service takes you to that provider, whose cookies and privacy practices are outside this notice.
How information is used
Information is used to operate and secure the website, diagnose faults, respond to correspondence, maintain records of a conversation where appropriate, and meet legal obligations. Means does not sell personal information.
When information is shared
Information may be processed by service providers that host or secure the website and email, subject to their service terms. It may also be disclosed when required by law, to protect rights or safety, or as part of a reorganisation where appropriate safeguards apply.
Retention
Correspondence is kept only as long as it remains useful for the purpose it was sent, for legitimate record-keeping, or as required by law. Technical logs are retained according to the hosting provider's operational and security practices.
Your choices and rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability of personal information, or to object to certain uses. You may also have the right to complain to a local data-protection authority. Contact Means to make a request; identity may need to be verified before information is disclosed or changed.
Security and international processing
Reasonable administrative and technical safeguards are used for information under Means' control, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security. Hosting and email providers may process information in countries other than your own under their applicable safeguards.
Children and changes to this notice
The website is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect personal information from them through an account or form. This notice may be updated when the website, providers, or legal requirements change; the date above identifies the current version.
